An Exhibition of Sumie Paintings by Yukiko Shimada

●14-19 June 20072007ex05

In February 2007 Yukiko Shimada visited Miyako Island, 310 km south-west of Naha, Okinawa, where she lived for a couple of months with local people. Millet fields that disappears into horizon, clear blue sky and sea that surrounds the island and old men and women whose faces were furrowed from the hardships they have endured; all were the source of her inspiration for the work shown at Hishio.

She has travelled extensively in Europe, South America, Bali and China, where she has worked and exhibited.
