SAORI weaving workshop with Toyomi Harada

Toyomi Harada, a advocator of SAORI, self-discovery through free weaving, guided a group of children in discovering fun in weaving their own, original material working on 10 simple SAORI looms. The children chose their own weft from a collection of yarns in many different colours and just wove, and wove to create most beautiful scarves and table mats. They wanted to carry on longer! SAORI is derived from the belief that the potential for expression and creativity lies within each of us.
Toyomi and Yasu, a woodwork artist and her business partner run Arts and Crafts Village in Misaki-cho, Okayama prefecture at a disused school, which they have renovated. It offers an extensive workshops for both woodwork and weaving in a most beautiful village set deep in the heart of Chugoku Monutain Range. Visitors from both Japan and abroad are welcome.
