Naoko Tanaka studied art at Kyoto City University of Arts. Trees have been the main motif in her work and she has donated several tree paintings to Maniwa City, whose main industry is forestry, when the city was amalgamated with neibouring towns and villages in 2005. Following her exhibitions in 2005 ad 2006, this is her third solo exhibition in Maniwa City.

She was awarded Ryohei Koiso Grand Prize in 2007. She lives and works in Kyoto.
