Artists in Residence

Since HISHIO was opened in June 2005, our Artist in Residence has grown to become a very important part of our activities and has been enjoyed by visiting artists and local people alike. Artists benefit not only from having their exhibition hosted, but also accommodation and studio space in a beautiful old town among the mountains. They experience Katsuyama’s warm hospitality, while local people have the pleasure of meeting artists from different cultures; sharing art experiences and enjoying exchanging ideas.

We continue to promote the exchange programme and encourage more artists to come and experience Katsuyama. We hope they are inspired by  this unique town where old and new coexist enriching the culture and the lives of local people.
